About Decostead

Practical home decor ideas for real homes, real routines and real decisions.

Open-plan living room with a cream sectional sofa, round wood coffee table, and dining area in warm neutral tones

A calmer way to decorate

Decostead is a home decor site for people who want rooms that feel warm, useful and personal without making decorating complicated. Most of our readers are US renters and homeowners working with a normal budget and a home they already live in.

We write about the decisions that come up again and again. Where the sofa goes, what size rug fits, which style suits the house and how to make a small apartment work. Every guide uses real measurements and rough price bands, not hype.

Six categories

The site has six categories, and each one has its own editorial voice:

  • Room Decor Ideas: room plans for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and home offices, including room paint colors and patios or porches planned as rooms
  • Small Spaces: studios, small apartments, renter-safe storage and small balconies
  • Decor Accents: coffee tables, shelves, pillows, throws, art and curtain styling
  • Styles: named styles such as Japandi and modern farmhouse, and the materials behind them
  • Home Decor Trends: what is new, what is worth trying and what is fading
  • Decor Picks: criteria-based buying guides for rugs, rug pads, curtains, lamps and storage

If you are new to the site, the start here page points to the best first read in each category.

How we write

Articles are published under six editorial voices. Each one is a pen name, not a real biography, and each covers one category only: Adam Taylor writes Room Decor Ideas, Claire Lawson writes Small Spaces and Emma Smith writes Decor Accents. Henry Wilson covers Styles, Liam Carter covers Home Decor Trends and Nora Bennett covers Decor Picks. A topic belongs to one voice, so two articles never compete to answer the same question. The pen names claim no degrees, awards, years of experience or personal stories.

Measurements repeat across many articles: rug sizes, walkway widths, art height, curtain length and lighting. To keep them consistent, every article uses one shared list of house facts, based on common interior design guidance and manufacturer recommendations. A new article never contradicts that list. When a fact on it changes, it changes once and every affected article is updated.

We use AI writing tools to help research, draft and check articles, but no article goes live on that basis alone. Each draft is checked against the style sheet for its voice, the house facts and our honesty rules. Then an editor reviews it, and a person approves it before it is published.

We do not run product tests. You will not read "we tested" or "we tried" on Decostead, and there are no star ratings or rankings presented as test results.

If you spot a wrong measurement or an outdated fact, email contact@decostead.com with the page address and what you noticed. We read every report. When an error is confirmed, we correct the article, and if the fix touches a house fact we check every other article that uses it.

How we choose products

Buying guides live in Decor Picks and are written by Nora Bennett. They help you choose the right type of rug, rug pad, curtain, lamp or storage piece, using criteria you can check yourself. They do not name specific products, brands or stores.

Every guide judges product types against the same five criteria:

  1. Fit: the piece has to suit the size of the room, the furniture around it and the way the space is used, with real measurements from our house facts.
  2. Materials: what each option is made of and how it wears after a year of everyday use.
  3. Care: whether it goes in the washer or only takes spot cleaning, and how much effort it needs to keep looking good.
  4. Returns and practicality: bulky or custom pieces are harder to send back, and some options suit renters better than others.
  5. Price tier: what you get at the lower, middle and upper end, given as rough bands because real prices change.

Most guides end with a fit and trade-off table so you can compare the options at a glance. The criteria draw on common interior design guidance and the general specifications makers publish, such as sizes and care labels.

No company pays to be included in a guide or to change what it says. Decostead has no affiliate links today, and our affiliate disclosure explains how any future ones would be labeled. Guides are updated when a house fact changes, when a common product type shifts in a meaningful way or when a reader points out a problem.
